Public Hearing Monday on Long Term Water Supply Plan – Council Considering Adoption of Urban Water Management Plan

The City Council has scheduled a public hearing to review and consider adoption of the City’s Draft Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP). You’re  invited to attend, learn more about the Plan, and participate in the discussion. This takes place at the City Council meeting THIS MONDAY, June 13, 2011, at 7 pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 1017 Middlefield Road.

As part of this meeting, staff is also recommending that a plan be developed (for future Council consideration) for expanded uses of recycled water, as well as a “budget-based” rate structure for residential water customers. This would include a proposal for expanding the Recycled Water Service Area so that existing and new development and more businesses have the opportunity to use recycled water. The budget-based rates (which currently apply to irrigation customers) provide a water conservation incentive via a rate structure that is established on a need-based water budget developed for each customer. The higher above-budget a customer’s water use, the higher the per-water-unit rate.

Please see the staff report for this public hearing, as well as other information on the UWMP at www.redwoodcity.org/uwmp.
