With Valentine’s Day approaching, everyone knows that February is the month for lovers – including book lovers! And with love as the fundraising theme for the third year in a row, the Redwood City Library Foundation is holding its annual fundraiser in February.

This special “We Love Bookworms” event is set for this Thursday, February 9, 6 to 8:30 pm at the Fair Oaks Library, 2510 Middlefield Road. Proceeds will be used to purchase children’s books and videos, books for adults, English language audio materials, and music for children and adults for the Fair Oaks Library. The goal is to close the gap on the Foundation’s $200,000 campaign goal for Fair Oaks Library materials.

“We’ve already raised $160,000 for books and materials for the Fair Oaks Library,” said John Blake, co-president of the Library Foundation, “We’re appealing to supporters to help fund the remaining $40,000.”

Guests will be treated to tasty food, wine, music, and the opportunity to bid on silent and live auction items. Former Redwood City Mayor Jim Hartnett will bring his oratory skills into play as the official auctioneer. The suggested admission donation is $10.

Funds raised by the Foundation for the Fair Oaks Campaign since late 2009 have already been invested in high-quality library materials to fill the once sparsely-stocked shelves of this small, but remarkably well-used library. To the children and adults in the low-income North Fair Oaks Neighborhood, the library is a cherished place of learning, providing books and materials, computers, literacy programs and helpful librarians. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a festive February evening in the company of other fans of books, libraries, and literacy, and have the opportunity to make a big difference in the lives of many, by supporting the Fair Oaks Campaign.

The lead sponsor for “We Love Bookworms” is the David B. and Edward C. Goodstein Foundation. Other sponsors include the Danford Foundation, Provident Credit Union, San Mateo Credit Union, Stanford University, Kaiser Permanente, Signature Realty, DMB Associates, County of San Mateo, Human Services, Lyngso Family and Wells Fargo. More information is available by contacting Georgi LaBerge, (650)780-7045. RSVPs are requested by emailing or calling (650) 367-1729.
