2nd Annual Redwood City Teens in Action Showcase This Friday Evening

Here is information on a great event this Friday evening that I think will interest you. We frequently read in the news about the challenges and issues of teens. Well, this special event – the 2nd Annual Teens in Action Showcase – presents a great opportunity to celebrate how much teens contribute to our community.

2nd Annual Redwood City Teens in Action Showcase

Friday, April 27th the Redwood City 2020 Community Youth Development Initiative presents the second annual Redwood City Teens in Action Showcase from 5 to 7 pm, in the heart of downtown Redwood City, at beautiful Courthouse Square. This fun and informative FREE family event celebrates the positive and change-making efforts of young people in our immediate community. The entire community – teens, families, community leaders, business owners, educators, and others – is invited and encouraged to attend and join in the fun!

The program features over 20 information tables and displays by local youth leadership groups, and includes hip hop and break dance demonstrations, musical performance, live DJs and spoken word – all by local teens. Redwood City Mayor Alicia Aguirre will give the welcoming address, alongside youth Masters of Ceremonies. Fabulous raffle prizes will be offered throughout the evening.

The program includes:

  • 5:00 – DJs
  • 5:30 – Welcome by Mayor Alicia Aguirre
  • 5:45 – Performances by Community Street Jam, Young Dreamer Network, Bay Area Bolly Girls, Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Academy, Elidex, Kathlyn and Jocelyn and the Molano Twins
  • 7:00 – Raffle, DJs, and “Shufflers”

Participating groups include Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula – Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Academy; Citizen Schools; Community Street Jam; El Centro de Libertad/The Freedom Center Youth Advisory Board; Grupo MAAC; Immigrant Youth Action Team; Kids in Partnership Program; Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services Youth and Teen Advisory Boards; Redwood City Library; Redwood Environmental Academy of Leadership (REAL); San Mateo County Youth Commission; Sequoia Teen Resource Center Youth Advisory Board; Sequoia Key Club; Sequoia Union High School District’s Migrant Youth; StarVista; The Dream Club; Woodside High School Octagon Club; Youth Leadership Institute – Youth Organizing San Mateo (YO! Mateo); and the Young Dreamer Network.

Redwood City 2020 is an initiative which brings together key public and private organizations in our community in ongoing efforts to ensure the health and success of all children, youth and families served by the Redwood City School District. Together, RWC 2020 partners identify barriers and then implement collaborative approaches that will open the doors to success. Redwood City 2020’s website is The John W.
