Good afternoon ā€“

I know it’s only Monday, but it’s not too early to get something fun on your calendar for this Saturday. Each year, the Redwood Shores Community Association puts on a Levee Cleanup Day, and it’s a great opportunity to get outside, get some sun, enjoy the company of other community members, and help the environment by cleaning up the levees around Redwood Shores. Please read below, and consider heading out there on Saturday!

For over 15 years at each end of August, the Redwood Shores Community Association (RSCA) has sponsored the Annual Levee Cleanup.

This year’s initiative is dedicated to the esteemed Pete Hughes; to acknowledge his faithful community leadership. He was able to gain the ongoing participation of civic, business, and community leaders to support this worthwhile public effort with their time and resources.

The Shores Levee Cleanup day is a fun community event. To the benefit of the environment, RSCA helps beautify seven miles of levee surrounding Redwood Shores. Volunteers are assembled into teams and assigned cleanup areas. Kids and parents, adults and seniors are welcome and encouraged to get involved in this worthwhile event. Family work groups handle their areas at their own pace; all help keep these bountiful nature trails debris-free.

This is a great opportunity for Redwood City residents to enjoy a beautiful summer morning, including experiencing birds and other wildlife. Volunteers always enjoy the splendor of seven miles of shoreline with some incredible views of the bay. Please join us; bring gloves and wear good walking shoes… all pickup tools are provided.

Lunch is on us! As a “thank you” to our many volunteers; a barbeque sponsored by our friends at San Mateo Credit Union is served at noon in Mariner Park. Take pride in enhancing this important Redwood City resource – join us Saturday August 25th 2012, 8 to noon.

Recology San Mateo County provides the trash collector containers and their assistance is gratefully acknowledged. Routinely large amounts of trash are picked from the Redwood Shores Levee environment by our volunteers and removed by Recology Systems free of charge. Many thanks also to the City of Redwood City for their support.
