2 Items: New Live Theatre Coming to Downtown; Gem & Mineral Show This Weekend

Good afternoon –

I wanted to share two things with you this afternoon.

First, in case you didn’t already know about it, our Downtown is getting a new live theater – the non-profit Dragon Productions Theatre Company, formerly in Palo Alto, has taken a great space right on Broadway, and is right now renovating it into a wonderful 75-seat theatre, rehearsal space, dressing room, and more.

This is very exciting and is going to be a great addition to Redwood City! Please visit the link below to read their latest email (and you can subscribe to get their e-newsletter).

The Dragon Theatre website is located at

And second, read below for a fun event for the family that you may want to check out! Read below for information on the Sequoia Gem & Minderal Society’s 45th annual show, this weekend.

Harvest of Gems and Minerals – This Weekend in Redwood City!

The Sequoia Gem & Mineral Society (SGMS) will hold its 45th Annual Harvest of Gems and Minerals on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, from 10am to 5pm at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Ave., Redwood City. Admission is $3 (children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult). Parking is free.

We will have several very knowledgeable dealers specializing in the areas of gold and silver jewelry, beads, faceted stones, slabs and rough rock, lapidary equipment, engraving (need to replace your dog’s tags?), wire wrapped jewelry, minerals and more. Children will have an opportunity to polish a stone which they can keep afterwards.

In addition to items for sale, one dealer will demonstrate how to create beautiful jewelry from a lump of Precious Metal Clay – 99.9% pure Silver when it is fired. Another will show you how to carve intricate details in stone. An SGMS member will amaze you with his Intarsia where many types and colors of stone are cut and assembled with precision to form designs or pictures. There will be several displays to showcase members’ special interest in lapidary, whether it is making jewelry, clocks, stone boxes, bookends, marbles, or collecting minerals or fossils. Some of the fantastic materials you may see either on a dealer’s table or in a member’s case might be agates, jaspers, dinosaur bone, jade, opal, lapis, unbelievable mineral specimens, fossils that are millions of years old-in so many colors and patterns that come from our earth it is mindboggling!
