Open Houses to Learn About After School Programs

Good morning, and happy Friday!

Our Parks Dept and local schools are holding special open houses next Wednesday afternoon/evening, as part of “Lights On Afterschool” – an opportunity for parents (and their kids) to come and check out the kinds of after school programs that are being offered. It’s part of a nationwide effort to bring attention to the need for and value of after school programs. Please read below for the details.

Thanks,

Lights On Afterschool

On Wednesday, October 17, the seven after school programs of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department are holding open houses as part of Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide rally for afterschool programs that is expected to include some 7,500 events around the country this year. In all, a million Americans are expected to join in events across the country to draw attention to the need for more afterschool programs.

In America today 15.1 million children are alone and unsupervised after school. After school programs keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults.

Redwood City Parks, Recreation and Community Services partners with Redwood City School District to provide after school programs at seven schools – choose the one near you and plan on dropping-in to learn more about after school programs:
