Reminders: Vote in Tree Decorating Contest / Help the Toy & Book Drive

Good morning –
Here are reminders of a couple of holiday activities that you’ll want to check out this week.
  • Don’t forget to vote in the 6th Annual Hometown Holidays Tree Decorating Contest, and enjoy many wonderful window decorations throughout Downtown
  • You can volunteer to help with this Wednesday’s Wrapping Party for the Toy and Book Drive, and you can of course still donate to the cause! Please read below for the quick reminders on both of these holiday opportunities.

The 6th Annual Hometown Holidays Tree Decorating Contest!

Visit Downtown and select your favorites in the Holiday Tree Decorating Contest. Decorated trees are in windows throughout Downtown, along with lots of other holiday decorations. Voting takes place now through December 17, and winners will be announced December 21. Visit for the ballot, tree locations, participating organizations, and voting locations. (no electronic voting; you must bring the ballot to one of the voting locations)


Upcoming Events for the Annual Toy & Book Drive

The Redwood City Police and Fire Departments, Police Activities League, and Parks Recreation and Community Services, have teamed up with The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, San Carlos Fire, Woodside Fire, and the CARON Project to bring the Christmas Toy and Book Drive and the holiday spirit right to the doorstep of many needy families. With help from the Fair Oaks Community Center and a corps of volunteers, this annual event has become a welcome tradition in the Redwood City community. See the news release online. 

Here are opportunities for you to be involved in helping others during the holiday season:

Wednesday, December 12 – Wrapping Party 5PM – 8PM
Red Morton Community Center 1120 Roosevelt Avenue
Join with others for a fun evening wrapping up all the donated items, and putting them together for delivery to families in need in our community. 

Entire week of December 17 – donation drop off
Peet’s Coffee 2600 Broadway
During the week of December 17 Peet’s will be collecting monetary donations for the Toy Drive. They will also provide free coffee at our Wrapping Party. Also drop off unwrapped toys at the restaurant.

Donations of toys and books may be made at any collection barrel, or at City  Hall, the Police Department, the Main Library, or any fire station. Businesses,  individuals, or groups wishing to get involved can get more information at
